There are no white spots left on the map
TL;DR It doesn’t matter if someone has already done “this”. If it’s your first time experiencing it, it’s all gain for you. It doesn’t even matter whether it’s good or bad. It adds to who you are and enriches you.
Can we still call ourselves explorers? With satellites above our heads, planes, ships and submarines, we could say there are no places left for common folk to discover. Sure, there are oceans and hidden enclaves of untouched forest. Unfortunately, those places, just like the stars above our heads, are pretty much out of reach for most people. Or are they? That’s a good topic for another motivational “you can do anything” post. But I’m not here for that.
Just as with physical places on our planet, we face similar problems in the virtual world. There’s a constant struggle to discover new things, new ways of amusing people, new ways of expressing yourself. On the other side of that struggle are the “seen that already” people. Instead of joining in the joy of discovery, they crush you with “That’s old, I saw that like 2 years ago”. But guess what – I’m not here to talk about that either.
You see, there are so many dimensions of human existence. Music, video, painting, origami, taste, smell, animals, travel, writing. Just count the number of paid professions. Then multiply that by past, present and future. So many things to focus on, so little time. So let’s focus on the past this time. Here comes a depressing moment: someone has already been in your place. Bah, someone has already used the atoms you’re made of. Heard the music, read the book, eaten at this restaurant, had a baby. Someone has already experienced this. Does it matter? I don’t think so. Keep exploring, keep discovering things for yourself that give you that feeling of freshness, that feeling of joy.
If you’re going to share it, realize that what you actually want to share is the feeling, through the experience. Is it worth sharing? Always! You can reach people who haven’t seen it yet.
