How many testers per developer?
There’s been some discussion at my company lately about the number of testers and the testing time needed before a major release. For some (mainly testers) it was obvious that we don’t have enough testers. There were many lengthy discussions, which I won’t waste time on (again). The ratio many suggest is between 1:1 and 1:3 (testers to developers). It might seem right, but there’s a key question we shouldn’t miss: how many of them are manual testers? If all of them, the release checklist quickly becomes a bottomless pit of time. Another important thing is the tester’s experience, not only in testing overall, but with the app they are testing.
To sum up: testers must automate. If they don’t know how, let (or make) them learn.
