Charades – a simple JavaScript app
The objective is a game of charades. Building a simple interface for it will improve your basic skills and knowledge of JavaScript.
The game runs in the browser only, no backend required.
Basic requirements
- Load a list of answers from a JSON file, once at the start of each round. Prepare the file yourself.
- Pick a random answer for the players to guess.
- Let the user mark the answer as guessed or missed, and view the results.
- Add an option to reset the game.
Future improvements
- A time limit for a round:
- a 120-second countdown
- a button that starts and resets the countdown
- when the countdown ends, the answer is marked as missed
- marking an answer as guessed or missed stops and resets the countdown
- Measuring the time of a round:
- the results show the time spent on the round
- Categories of answers:
- the user chooses from 3 categories
- changing the category resets the game
- Players:
- an interface for entering player names
- the user can choose the current player
- the results show the player
- a color for each player, shown in the list of players and in the results; optionally, the background of the whole app changes too
- Keep the game state between sessions (for example in
localStorage).
